Nvraid ide setup

Enable RAID on the channels displayed that have disks. Choose No and press Ctrl-X to save your changes. Once the diagnostics program is running, select Create a Diagnostic Partition, and click Yes. If the operation is successful, the diagnostic partition for the RAID configuration is created. If you receive an error message stating "Unknown Partition on Disk," go to Step 4, and then repeat steps 2 and 3.

Be sure to use this option before installing the operating system. Return to Step 2 above to create the diagnostic partition. You should access the SAS controller configuration utility upon system boot, and when the SAS controller card is initializing. Do this for all disks you want to added to the RAID array. Note - You will be receive a warning message about losing the data on the disk.

If you are selecting a mirror, on the first disk you select you will be asked if you want to keep the data and have it synchronized in the mirror. You can also choose to install one of the other supported operating systems. Note - For best results, make sure to run the latest operating system OS updates. Some OS installations might not run properly if the latest updates are not installed.

The following additional operating systems are supported for the Sun Ultra 40 M2 Workstation:. Instructions for installing these operating systems are packaged in the media sets that are provided with the operating system software. Note - If you have already installed the NVIDIA drivers, you must reinstall them after running up2date , because the kernel is updated. After installing the operating system, run the installation script provided on the Sun Ultra 40 M2 Workstation Tools and Drivers DVD to install the drivers that correspond to your operating system.

You also need to run the installation script to mount the diagnostic partition for all supported operating systems if you have created a new diagnostic partition. The diagnostic partition cannot be mounted on a workstation running Windows XP software. To install the video and chipset drivers and mount the diagnostic partition when running a Linux operating system:. Log in to the Sun Ultra 40 M2 Workstation as superuser.

If the CD does not automount, open a terminal window and mount the CD by typing the following command:. Run the installation script by typing the following command:. This script does not execute if the X server is running. If the script exits and you receive an error message, perform the following steps to disable the X server:. I then went into device manager and updated the "Vista updated" drivers back to v9.

Then I rebooted. I will have to wait another 12 hours or so to try this Vista install again. The good news is that this nuking of the system will give me another chance to try your again-updated drivers.

Now, the v9. I downloaded those drivers about 12 hours ago. Have you actually modified the drives again, since then? And how do I make sure I get the new, latest versions?

Thanks again for your help. Yes, I have updated them today. The freshly modded packages have the suffix "final". When trying to install Vista, I used the v9. I think it actually happened during reboot. At this point, I abandoned trying to install v9. So, after Vista install was complete, I went in, following the instructions at the top of this thread to update all three drivers, one by one, to v9. I then verified that each was at v9. Anyway, I then reboot. After reboot, all of these are still intact.

However, Vista keeps adding additional drivers to the list. So, I tried updating both those and rebooting, but they came back. I then tried uninstalling just those devices, but after reboot they come back.

Therefore, for now I have decided to once again install Vista from scratch, and I will just leave it at v8. At this point I just need to get Vista loaded and running, and v9. I did note that v9. Now the only question I have is whether I should stick with the v8. Thanks again for your help and assistance.

I am not sure about that. This folder contains all needed drivers v. You obviously have done something wrong either with installing or updating the nForce IDE drivers. Don't install the MediaShield part of the I am installing Vista x I have tried this, two different ways, as I explained in my message above. At this point I can't see what I have done wrong installing the drivers.

I have tried this, fresh, several different way. After reboot and as I log on, Vista says that it needs to reboot to finish installing drivers. If I uninstall those v8. I'm really starting to think that the v9.

However, during setup I did actually install the v Once Vista was completely installed, after a few reboots I started getting a black screen hang on reboot - i. We decided that these drivers are almost always out of date, so we downloaded the latest nForce platform drivers from nVidia's site onto another computer At the time of writing, they were version 5.

After the drivers have unpacked themselves, they will attempt to install, so just hit cancel. As the drivers are not being installed on the machine at this point, it means you can use any system with Windows on it.

You'll see a bunch of files in the folder - these are the ones we need to copy to the floppy disk! Don't forget to label the disk, so you know what's on it, just in case it gets lost down the back of the sofa. There's a bunch of menu options here, but the one we're most interested in is the Integrated Peripherals option. This will show you another menu not pictured , but we're only interested in the "IDE Function Setup". This will provide another menu with a whole bunch of options!

Finally the drives can be assigned to the RAID array! Don't forget to save and exit! Be warned, there's only a few seconds when you can hit F10 and have it register, so you might have to be quick! Now I AM sure. As far as having two different directories for Raid and IDE, it may have been me that had it shown as that was how I was doing it before I went with the txtmode setup of the drivers and calling them from within WinNT.

In my setup prior I was using:. Since all my motherboards are Nvidia based, this solution should be best for my needs. Now to figure out how to get the ATI and Creative drivers to install the same way with their control panels, etc installed as well.

Which would be especially nice if I can also gain use of the AIW's files as well that way. Less work on my part if this works, and less strain on my single brain cell. After further testing none of these methods I talked about in this worked at all for me, sorry for the confusion Thanks for that excellent explanation. All of the sudden my floppy won't read the driver diskette. Don't know what happened. Hopefully this will work.

First off, thanks for all the hard work. I was able totally install xp, but when it restarted after the install, I got to the xp splash screen and it rebooted; this happens over and over. I am not sure if this is happening cause of the raid slipstream or sometihing totally different cause this board has been having so many other problems.

Well anyway, here is how I setup the slipstream. The drivers I used are here at the bottom of the page. Was wondering if I missed something? This board has been a nightmare to me as it is having other problems like recognizing one of my cd burners and lags at the post screen.

So your saying my settings should be okay and this should have worked for me? Maybe its the drivers causeing the problems. I am going to extract the drivers from the Nvidia nForce3 5. Just realized the drivers I were kind of dated.

Think I am going to change the raid from 32k to 64k too. If this doesn't work its RMA time. Man I miss my NF7-S 2. I would have to agree that you should give Bashrat's pack a try as it looks like it's working fairly well now and he's done the hard work for you.
