Francine rivers a voice in the wind pdf
When I read the manuscript for the first book in the series, A Voice in the Wind , I was blown away by the power of the story. I was transported back to the first century—to Jerusalem, Germania, Rome, and Ephesus. I lived with Hadassah as she struggled to live out her faith in the midst of a pagan Roman household.
I felt the terror of the gladiator as he faced his foes in the arena. Above all, through their experiences I learned lessons in courage. We are proud to present this new edition of the Mark of the Lion. I trust it will speak to your heart, as it has to mine and to hundreds of thousands of other readers. When I became a born-again Christian in ,1 wanted to share my faith with others. I found myself hesitating and keeping silent.
Ashamed of my cowardice and frustrated by it, I went on a quest, seeking the faith of a martyr. A Voice in the Wind was the result. But when we surrender wholeheartedly to God, He gives us the courage to face whatever comes. He gives us the words to speak when we are called to stand and voice our faith. I still consider myself a struggling Christian, fraught with faults and failures, but Jesus has given me the tool of writing to use in seeking answers from Him.
God is patient with me, and through the study of His Word, I am learning what He wants to teach me. When I hear from a reader who is touched by one of my stories, it is God alone who is to be praised. All good things come from the Father above, and He can use anything to reach and teach His children—even a work of fiction. My main desire when I started writing Christian fiction was to find answers to personal questions, and to share those answers in story form with others.
Now, I want so much more. I yearn for the Lord to use my stories in making people thirst for His Word, the Bible. I pray that you will finish my book and pick up the Bible with a new excitement and anticipation of a real encounter with the Lord Himself. Beloved, surrender wholeheartedly to Jesus Christ, who loves you. As you drink from the deep well of Scripture, the Lord will refresh and cleanse you, mold you and re-create you through His Living Word.
She washed and dried her hands and flipped the damp cloth back at Bithia in dismissal. She was happy here. She served them better than any other slave before her. He had no wish to give her back to his selfish, willful daughter, not when Julia had more slaves than she needed already. Absolutely worthless. She could hardly tell her parents why Caius objected. Julia rose up on her couch. I only loaned her. I never once said you could have her, Mother. Julia stared in disbelief. And what about me?
Marcus entered the room and gave his sister a wry smile. Welcome home, Julia. They care more about a slave than they do about their own daughter. She needed Hadassah, she needed her nearby. Does he know what I have to endure?
Decimus frowned, wondering at the intensity of her emotions. Suddenly she thought she knew the reason Julia was so emotional. You may take her back with you. Marcus found Hadassah sitting on a bench in the peristyle. His pulse quickened as he came close to her. She stood, and her posture spoke of obedience. He thought of how many times he had wanted to talk with her.
Sometimes he would rise early just to watch her go out at sunrise to pray to her god. At those times, the temptation to go out to her had been almost too great. But he knew his father was right. She was different from all others. To take her as he had taken others would ruin her. Odd that it mattered to him, but it did, and he had kept his word to leave her alone. Instead, he spoke harshly. It had been a long time since he had seen that look in her eyes and, full of remorse, he impulsively cupped her face.
You have served us well. You can tell me the truth. His hands tightened. How long would it be before he saw her again? Hadassah drew back from him slightly, disturbed by his touch.
Had she a choice, she would stay here with Phoebe and Decimus. She would remain close to Marcus. He was so troubled. Life was a war to him, each accomplishment a battle to win. Terri-Lynn Ledger seemed to have it all—a husband and two children, a strong faith, and a successful career—but, after almost two decades in the demanding corporate world, her job was made redundant. Her busy lifestyle terminated abruptly.
Her world shaken—yet she was inexplicably calm—and from this came the inspiration for what is written in these pages. This soothing, yet thought-provoking book is a compilation. Believed dead, Hadassah finds employment helping a doctor in the poor section of first-century Rome and discovers an ability.
